Is there a better way to celebrate the launch of Return to the Hundred Acre Wood than by staging Winnie-the-Pooh’s Homecoming Party? We think not. Chris Reed served as Master Of Ceremonies on October 18th at the Gladstone Hotel Ballroom. Don Kerr & Friends performed songs inspired by the 100 Acre Wood. Celebrity readers like Lisa Ayuso, Richard Crouse, Rachel Harry, Ibi Kaslik, Richard Poplak, Shoshanna Sperling (of Sho, Mo, and The Monkey Bunch), and Michael Winter brought to life a handful of the new adventures featuring the ‘Silly old Bear’ and his friends. And, of course, there was honey!

As Josh Leibner, Gershon Mader, and Alan Weiss, Ph.D., authors of THE POWER OF STRATEGIC COMMITMENT: Achieving Extraordinary Results Through TOTAL Alignment and Engagement (AMACOM; June 30, 2009) describe it, “While most senior managers understand that no matter how clear and valid their strategy and objectives are, if people are not genuinely on the same page working with each other, rather than against or independent of each other, they will not achieve the success they want. As one executive put it, ‘Strategic planning – that’s when you go offsite as a team, agree on a bunch of priorities for the year, then go back to work and do what you were going to do anyway.’”

Based on their combined consulting experience spanning 80-plus years, 500 clients, and 60 countries working with companies of all types and at all levels, THE POWER OF STRATEGIC COMMITMENT reveals how true ownership and commitment, and not merely compliance, can be achieved at any organization, even when the environment is filled with the typical toxic organizational issues of distrust, politics, turf-ism, butt-covering, blame and timidity.

The live event featured an incredible roster of musicians and artists in celebration of this Canadian folk rock icon. Joe Hall has has been compared to everyone from Frank Zappa to Tom Waits, but he is a true original. His sharp wit, insightful social commentary and wildly entertaining stage presence made him a fixture of the ’70s Queen Street scene in Toronto with his band The Continental Drift. He continues to tour across Canada with his current band, Screaming Vegetables. His music and videos are available on his website joehall.org, as well as Cordova Bay Records.

And by all accounts it was welcomed by all at their joint Holiday Party and announcement Monday December 10. The two firms intend to join forces as of January 2, operating out of the Meisner offices on King Street East in Toronto.

Biased though we are (BookShorts is and continues to be a client) we did our own video survey of guests at the fete — what a hoot to turn the cameras on the gals usually *behind* the scenes! With many thanks to the guests of Susas and Debby, and apologies to all professional camera people everywhere.

It commemorates writers who find inspiration in Toronto and use the city as a setting in their work. The series culminated at the 10th anniversary of Doors Open Toronto. Author / musician / filmmaker Paul Quarrington read an excerpt from his novel “The Ravine” at Todmorden Mills: Heritage Museum and Arts Centre followed by a walk in the Don Valley. The valley is a perfect stand-in for the pivotal dramatic event in Quarrington’s tale.
