Guest Report book video from Chris Reed, Pages Books….That TOTSAPALOOZA sold out so quickly proves that others share our interest in indie music, the DIY spirit, and children’s books. We’re clearly onto something.
Since the core of ‘TOTSAPALOOOZA’ is tots, I defer my observations to those of my partner Catherine’s girls, Holly, 3, and Katya, 8. Holly paid Don and the Blue Bin Band the highest compliment in her budding critical lexicon. She insisted we listen to “Don, he’s funny” (The Sniffing Princess CD) after the show in the car. As soon as ‘The Chocolate King’ ended, she piped up “again.” So, we hit repeat.
Katya thought the way Dave (Bidini) built the Old MacDonald song was “awesome-sauce” (what one pours atop a stack of ‘awesome-ness’, so a high compliment indeed) and that he, Lorenzo and Cecilia were “really clever” for coming up with the lyrics. Katya paused and added, “You know, we could totally do that.”
Holly and Katya are both quite shy. That Sho, Mo and The Monkey Bunch encouraged them, on their own volition, to get up and dance with the other kids is quite an accomplishment in itself. As Katya put it, “how can you not love a band that gives out bananas?”
Everyone there embraced the DIY spirit, quite literally, when it came to building instruments out of recycled instruments.
Judith, and her camera person, Mani, kindly captured yesterday’s proceedings on videotape. I am delighted to have a record for the Pages’ archive.
